How to Apply for Membership

Applying to become a member of Broadview Housing Co-operative is a different process than if you are applying to live in a regular apartment building. As a member-based, non-profit organization, we rely on our members to be more than just good tenants, but good members of the community. This could involve attending regular members’ meetings, sitting on a committee, or possibly being a part of the Board of Directors.

If you would like to become a member of our community, you will need to take the following steps:

1. Fill out a membership application

If you are looking for a market-rent suite, download our application, print and fill it out, and return it to us either by mail, fax or in person. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open and view the application.

If you are looking for an RGI (Rent-Geared-to-Income) suite, you will need to apply through Housing Connections. We do not accept applications for RGI suites directly.

2. Attend a membership orientation session

Prospective members are required to attend an orientation session, to further learn about the co-op, receive information about the membership process, and take a tour of our facilities. To find out when our next orientation session is taking place, please contact us, or visit our upcoming events page.

Please note, Steps 1 and 2 can take place in either order (you can fill out an application and then attend a session, or you can attend a session, and then fill out an application).

3. Interview

All prospective members are required to attend a member interview, where they will be asked questions relating to co-op living, and assessed for their suitability to become a member. Remember, we’re looking for people who are eager to become an active part of the community, so showing an interest in this area will definitely help!

4. Acceptance

Members who have successfully completed all of the above steps are then approved for membership. Prospective members are given two opportunities to reject an offered suite before their name goes to the bottom of the waiting list.

Thanks for your interest in becoming a member and good luck in your application process!
