Minto Skyy Condo Project Construction
As everyone must know by now, the former plaza next door to the Co-op, at 1048 Broadview, has been demolished to make way for a new condo development. Although construction was originally expected to begin this past Fall, it finally got under way this past April.
At this point, the two planned intrusions into Co-op property are the underground “tiebacks”, and the rear end of the construction crane, which will be swinging above the south part of the property. The tiebacks are reinforcements needed to prevent the excavation from suffering cave-ins (Minto Skyy will extend five stories below ground), and these long reinforcements need to be hammered directly into the earth, extending diagonally downwards underneath our building.
Once they get started, we can expect construction to fall within the daytime hours of construction permitted by city bylaws, and Minto will likely make full use of these hours. This includes Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 7 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm. Sunday construction may occur on occasion, but will be infrequent due to the fact that special city permits are required.
If all goes according to schedule, the job will be finished around Spring/Summer 2009.
